Songwriter.ie 2008 Showcase
The 5th Annual Irish Midlands Songwriter Showcase
LEAP YEAR NIGHT!
Friday, February 29th, at the Palace Loft in Athlone
Now in its fifth year, the annual songwriter.ie Midland Songwriter Showcase will present 2008's talented lineup of original artists in Athlone's Palace Loft on Friday, February 29th at 9pm.
The five songwriters playing live this year are Mullingar legend Pete Courtney, Steven and Patrick Heffernan, two young Athlone lads who write their own blistering, original Irish traditional tunes, Geoff Quinlan, Athlone's answer to Preston Reed, Critic Eyes, a girl-fronted local rock band who have been making headlines lately and Sean Allen, a powerful performer who will taking a break from the Muse and Guns n Roses covers to sing a few from his own impressive catalogue. Interview mp3s of the songwriters talking about how they write their material will soon be available for free under the artist profiles at www.songwriter.ie.
The songwriter showcase is unique in that it's not just a live concert, but a live recording session. The intent is to allow artists the opportunity to strip away augmented performance and instrumentation to share their original material in an intimate, acoustic setting. Unlike a recording studio where performers are left to conjure a relationship with a potential listener, the showcase gives these talented people live attendants as they revisit their compositions.
At the songwriter showcase, audience members have the unique opportunity to attend the creation of a studio album in the making - who knows, you may just hear yourself on the CD when it's released later this year.
Songwriter.ie has been producing its annual showcase in Athlone and releasing live albums of the evening for the last four years. For more information, please visit www.songwriter.ie or email info@songwriter.ie
