Songwriter.ie Sponsors its 3rd Showcase

The 3rd Annual Irish Midlands Songwriter Showcase
Sunday, June 25th, at the Palace Loft in Athlone
Now in its third year, the annual Midland Songwriter Showcase has another talented lineup of original artists set to perform in Athlone's Palace Loft this Sunday, June 25th.
This year's show features six local songwriters, Peter Doran, Debbie Finnan, Ciaran Flynn, Makewait, Bill Sherriff and Mark White, and will be hosted by local Midlands Gold voice talent Liam Dumpleton. If you have attended previous Showcase events, you know the evening is a rare chance to attend a live recording session where talented performers share their self-penned material in an intimate setting.
The evening will be recorded and released later in the year as the third Midland Songwriters CD. This year's batch of artists are as distinct from each other as they are talented and a few of them are releasing CDs this summer.
Peter Doran is a well-established Irish talent from Mullingar and has been featured alongside such names as Damien Rice and Paddy Casey. Peter is an accomplished guitarist and audience members can expect a sneak preview of material from his upcoming album.
Deborah Jane, also of Mullingar, is releasing her debut album next month. Deborah posesses a truly remarkable voice and puts it to good use in her compelling performances. Her songs are often powerful stream-of-consciousness pieces that leave the audience breathlessly entranced.
Ciarann Flynn, originally of Athlone has been making quite a name for himself both in his adopted Dublin and around the world. Following a sell-out performance at Bewley's cafe in March 2006, Ciaran has undertaken a tour of the US and will be returning fresh from New York to perform at this year's songwriter showcase.
Makewait is Ian Bell, Derek Daly and Cormac Sheerin, all from Athlone. The newly formed band is simply the latest collaboration between these life-long talented friends. Makewait has just released their debut EP and this will be their first acoustic performance.
Bill Sherriff may have been writing songs since before you were born. With a folky style all his own, Bill's songs range from the comedic to the darkly observant and are the children of a lifelong love affair with music. Aside from a brief flirt with fame as a drummer in a 1960's London-based rock band, BIll has resided quietly in Athlone all his life, playing guitar and writing more music than you can shake a stick at.
Originally from Dublin, Mark White released his debut album last fall and is no stranger to the stage. With thousands of performances under his belt, Mark's ability to capture an audience's attention is uncontested.
Red Hot Records will be hosting a table of independent, local music CDs for sale on the night and the evening is a non-profit event, all proceeds go to supporting local live, original performance. The 2004 and 2005 Songwriter CDs are currently available by clicking here or at local Athlone music outlets, Red Hot Records and Musicland.
